Offensive and defensive efficiency, pace and schedule strength produce an expected score for both teams — the anchor for every number that follows.

The margin implied by those scores becomes a fair spread. You then compare that number to the posted line instead of inventing a separate handicap opinion.

Price the total

Combined points become a fair total. Mispriced games often disagree on both sides of the number; the board keeps spread and total on the same row.

When an official wager is released, line, price, book and unit size are recorded under the grading methodology used for the public record.

Practical notes

A half-point disagreement is noise more often than signal. Larger separations — especially when the total agrees — are where the board earns its keep. Injury news, travel and rest still override a stale projection.
